DETROIT – Three Servite sisters with Detroit ties have been elected to key leadership positions in the American province of the Servants of Mary.

Sr. Mary Gehringer OSM, former superintendent of Catholic Schools for the Archdiocese of Detroit, has been chosen to become provincial of the order, whose motherhouse is in Omaha, Neb.

Sr. Gehringer's ministry in the Detroit Catholic schools began in 1970. She was a teacher and later as an administrator at St. John Berchmans Elementary, Detroit, then principal of St Joan of Arc, St. Clair Shores (1982-1990).

She held leadership positions in her community in Omaha from 1990-1995, and was appointed director of institutional advancement of Marian High School in Omaha (1995-1998).

Sr. Gehringer returned to Detroit as associate superintendent of Catholic schools for the Detroit Archdiocese (1998-2004). She was superintendent from 2004-2009.
